While the summer season is inevitably the busiest period for calls for assistance from Sea Start members, the winter was surprisingly busy. More and more yachts seem to be out on the water on the bright (and not so bright) winter days and Sea Start received 15% more calls over the winter than in the same period last year. Over Christmas there were a number of call-outs, including a yacht that motored over its own anchor, fouling the propeller. The 40ft yacht was towed back to Lymington where divers quickly cleared the problem. In the 20 years that Sea Start has been operating there has never yet been a breakdown call out on Christmas Day and this year was no exception.
Sea Start’s Nick Eales commented – People enjoy being on the water all year round these days. Perhaps it’s global warming, or perhaps it’s just that yachts are more comfortable and protective clothing is more well designed. So our team at Sea Start have to be standing by, even on the days when temperatures are sub-zero!
